Benefits of GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

ADVANTAGES OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

The term geo refers to earth while thermos refers to heat. It therefore occurs that geothermal energy is heat that is extracted from the earth. This heat is formed within the earth by the action of decaying minerals and the solar energy absorbed by the earth’s surface.

In some countries such as Kenya, El Salvador and others, this heat flows own its own to the surface and is tapped for use. However, some countries that do not have that natural way drill wells to tap the energy. Its advantages include;

Ø  It is sustainable. The heat that is extracted is very small compared to the heat within the earth.

Ø  Although geothermal energy plant requires huge capital investment, geothermal energy in itself requires no fuel to produce. It is therefore immune to fuel cost fluctuations.

Ø  Natural geothermal emissions provide natural hot springs that are used medically.

Ø  Geothermal energy provides direct heating capability.

Ø  Geothermal energy can be tapped and directed to homes through special pipes for heating purposes.

Ø  Geothermal energy is almost free and therefore cost effective.

Ø  Geothermal is reliable.

Ø  It is environmentally friendly.

Ø  Geothermal plants require minimal land and fresh water for set up.

Ø  Geothermal energy is used in the production electricity.
