One of the most important inventions of this century is the extraction of energy from nuclear reactions, which is known as nuclear energy. Reactions like fission and fusion release tremendous amount of energy, and capturing that energy gives us nuclear energy. Needless to say, the advantages of nuclear energy are many, a few of which are as follows:
- It produces extremely huge amount of energy, which is almost a million times more than what we get from win energy. Thus, around 20 percent of world’s electricity is generated by nuclear energy.
- Nuclear energy does not emit any kind of greenhouse gases, and thus it is a great boon for the environment as it reduces global warming and climate change.
- The main source of nuclear energy is uranium, which is present in abundance and it takes a small amount of it to produce large quantities of nuclear energy.
- If a nuclear plant is setup, a huge amount of nuclear energy can be drawn from it without any maintenance at all. Thus the cost of nuclear energy is reduced.
- It is a very inexpensive form of energy and can be transported to far off places with ease and security.
